The Academy of Contemporary Music Leases Iconic Arts...

The Guide 2 Surrey 22/06/2017 Staff Writer It’s finally official: Following the twists and turns of a bidding process that began in 2015, the new leaseholders of the Electric Theatre in Guildford have formally taken the reins of the iconic building. The Academy of Contemporary Music has signed a 20-year lease on the building which was previously under the management of Guildford Borough Council. The Theatre’s existing staff have transferred to ACM as part of the move, and ACM say they are looking forward to working with them and the local community to deliver a stream of rich arts programming over the months and years ahead, pledging to run The Electric as a community arts venue for the people of Guildford and the wider area on a not-for-profit basis. Lead Councillor for Social Welfare, Heritage and the Arts, Cllr Nikki Nelson-Smith said: “We are pleased to announce that the Academy of Contemporary Music has signed the lease to operate The Electric Theatre for the next 20 years, securing the future of the venue.
