The Guide 2 Surrey 01/08/2017 Staff Writer    How a series of children’s books by Surrey-based author and illustrator and a nurse are helping patients and children deal with the fear of serious illness…Explaining something as distressing as a diagnosis for serious or terminal illness to someone is one of the hardest things to communicate. And when that person is a child, informing them of the path that lies ahead, of difficult treatments, symptoms and outcomes can be almost unthinkably challenging. But thanks to a Guildford-based author and illustrator Ffion Jones and palliative care nurse Kerry Hyde – with not a little assistance from an adorable and empathic teddy bear – an award-winning series of children’s books helps kids to better understand and navigate those difficult situations.With the help of Kickstarter fundraising and the embrace of the business, charity and medical communities in Surrey, they have produced the first two books of the Nurse Ted series, one about brain tumours and the second about cancer.
