Fashion - Brilliantly British Brora
BACK TO BLOGS
Cosy Scottish cashmere creators Brora pride themselves on being ‘made in Britain’ and ethically source and produce clothing using only the finest quality yarn from specially selected herds...
Producing menswear, womenswear, children’s clothing and accessories for 20 years with the belief that quality not quantity rules the way (we agree). Brora are 100% privately owned so their customers can breath easy in the knowledge that their precious wages are not being lost to the pockets of faceless corporate cogs.
Amid the highlands and in the Scottish borders the two Brora-used mills have been producing cashmere for over 200 years and the techniques used ensure that Brora’s clothing is made to the highest quality. The mills have provided employment for Scottish families for generations and their other customers include famed brands such as Chanel, Hermes and Louis Vuitton.
"With a strong sense of ‘built to last’ knitted into the fabric of the company, Brora warrant their garments will survive season to season."
Each season the raw material for Brora cashmere is collected from small sustainable farms in a remote region of Inner Mongolia. Once it’s been to the Scottish mills the majority of items are made in the UK, keeping their carbon footprint low and their products eco-conscious. When they occasionally do venture abroad it is usually to small family run businesses whose ethos matches their own.
Each Brora cashmere garment undergoes approximately 50 processes, many of them hand-operated, before reaching the quality check stage. With a strong sense of ‘built to last’ knitted into the fabric of the company, Brora warrant their garments will survive season to season.
